COVID-19 Update: Latest Re-openings, Expanded Testing, Free Flu Vaccines, Upcoming Virtual Events & More

Thu, Sep 24, 2020

Dear San Ramon Community,

This week, Contra Costa County remains in the State of California's Widespread (purple) tier. The State of California has added nail salons to the list of businesses that can open indoors in counties in the purple tier. Contra Costa Health Services has issued a new public health order to expand COVID-19 testing through local healthcare facilities, and during the month of October, Contra Costa Health Services is offering free flu vaccines at specific locations in the County. If you missed last Friday's Virtual Mayor's Breakfast, you can catch up on the video for an overview of the upcoming Elections process, and the deadline to submit applications for San Ramon's virtual Culture in the Community celebration is October 1.

Below are the latest updates for the San Ramon community.

Latest Business Openings in Contra Costa County

This week, the State of California added nail salons to the list of businesses that may open indoors in counties that are in the Widespread (purple) tier, including Contra Costa County. Nail salons may open indoors, following the State of California's industry guidance for personal care services.

New Public Health Order from Contra Costa Health Services Requires Local Healthcare Providers to Expand COVID-19 Testing

Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) released a new health order today, requiring private healthcare facilities in Contra Costa County to provide timely COVID-19 tests, beginning on October 8, to:

  • Essential workers, as defined by state and local health orders to include teachers, grocery store clerks, restaurant employees, health care workers, bus drivers, as well as others
  • People who have symptoms of COVID-19
  • People who have had close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case
  • People identified by CCHS as needing priority testing, such as possible contacts identified through contact tracing

The order requires facilities to provide testing to members identifying themselves as essential workers upon request, without a doctor's note.

To increase early detection of COVID-19 cases, CCHS recommends that everyone who lives or works in the county consider a COVID-19 test whether or not they have symptoms. CCHS encourages essential workers in jobs with high contact with the public, like store clerks, wait staff, teachers, and assisted living staff to get tested every 30 days.
