In Nov 2024, Sunset Development submitted formal development applications for The Orchards (formerly Chevron Park). The applications have been deemed complete. Public review will begin at Architectural Review Board Meetings on May 1, May 5 and June 5, 2025.

The City of San Ramon's annual budget process is underway. The next public meeting on the FY26 Budget will take place at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at San Ramon City Hall.

The City of San Ramon is thrilled to again host the beloved Art & Wind Festival on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in San Ramon Central Park. Come for the kites and get blown away by the art, music and food!

The Public Review Draft of San Ramon's updated Climate Action Plan is now available. The 30-day public review and comment period begins April 16, 2025 and ends May 15, 2025.

The Summer 2025 Recreation Guide is available online and in print. Registration opens to residents on Monday, April 14 and to non-residents Monday, April 28.

Four (4) units will soon be released as part of San Ramon's San Ramon’s Below Market Rate (BMR) Home Ownership lottery program. The deadline to enter the opportunity drawing lottery is Thursday, May 1 at 5 p.m. An orientation will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 6 p.m.

Beginning Monday, March 31, the San Ramon Library will re-open on Mondays, from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. These hours were previously reduced as part of budget-balancing measures for the 2024–25 fiscal year. With the passage of Measure N (a 1% local sales tax measure) in November 2024, additional revenue will offset the expenses associated with restoring these hours.

Jennifer Wakeman will join the City of San Ramon as its first Director of Finance.

The Spring 2025 & Summer Camps Recreation Guide is available online and in print. Registration opens to residents on Monday, February 24 and to non-residents Monday, March 10.

Waste collection rates went up 2.63 % beginning January 1, 2025. Most households have 35-gallon service, and currently pay $152.33 per quarter ($50.78 per month). Beginning January 1, the adjusted rate will be $156.34 for the same service, an increase of $4.01 per quarter ($52.11 per month).

Applications are now open for the spring 2025 session of the San Ramon Police Department's free 14-week Community Academy.

Sunset Development Company has submitted formal applications for The Orchards Development Project (formerly Chevron Park). The applications are currently under review by the City for completeness. Once the applications are deemed complete, a public review process will begin. There will be multiple opportunities for Public Comment throughout the public review process.

The San Ramon City Council is accepting applications to appoint an applicant from District 2 to fill the remainder of an unexpired term on the City Council. The successful applicant would serve from the time of appointment until the results of the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election are certified by the City Council.

The results of the November 5, 2024 General Election have been certified by the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder. Mark H. Armstrong was elected the next Mayor of San Ramon, Robert Jweinat was elected the next City Council member from District 1, and Sridhar Verose was re-elected as the City Council member from District 3. San Ramon voters also approved Measure N, a ballot measure to adopt a 1% local sales tax.

At the November 12, 2024 City Council meeting, the City Council adopted Objective Design and Development Standards for the Review of Qualifying Multi-Family and Residential Mixed-Use Developments (ODDS). Objective standards allow applicants to know what City design and development criteria apply to their project before they begin their design.

This morning, Chevron announced that they are planning to move their headquarters from San Ramon to Houston, Texas. Chevron has been a part of San Ramon’s business community for many years, and the City understands the community’s interest in the potential economic impacts to San Ramon.

At the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 23, the San Ramon City Council voted unanimously to place a one cent per dollar (1%) transactions and use tax ("sales tax") measure on the November 2024 ballot.

At the City Council Meeting on June 25, the San Ramon City Council adopted a balanced budget for the 2024/25 Fiscal Year (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). This budget closes a $17.6 million shortfall in revenue through several strategies, including $8.1 million in budget cuts across all departments, un-funding vacant staff positions, and increasing user fees for City services.

Two sections of the Iron Horse Trail in San Ramon will be closed from June 10 to July 31, 2024 for pavement repairs. The affected areas are between Greenbrook Drive and Norris Canyon Road, and between Montevideo Drive and Alcosta Boulevard.

Brian Bornstein has been selected as the City of San Ramon's next Director of Public Works.

The construction of the Aspenwood Senior Apartment project for 122 income-restricted senior apartment units, made possible in part by significant funding from the City, continues to make progress toward occupancy, and is anticipated to open in February. The developer has begun accepting applications for eligible senior (62+) households.

Beginning January 2, 2024, the Permit Center will offer walk-in service from 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m. daily, and appointments from 1–5 p.m.

Construction of the Iron Horse Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing at Bollinger Canyon Road has begun. The work includes bridge construction, grading, paving, landscape, lighting, traffic signal work, crosswalk removal, and median improvements. Please use caution when traveling through the construction zone.

The San Ramon City Council has announced the selection of Steven Spedowfski as San Ramon’s next City Manager.

On April 24, Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA), in partnership with Beep, Inc., and Bishop Ranch and with support from the City of San Ramon, launched the first autonomous shuttle program open to the public in the Bay Area.

On February 27, 2023, the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) found the City of San Ramon’s revised Adopted 2023–2031 Housing Element to be in substantial compliance with State Housing Element Law.

At the City Council meeting on January 30, 2023, the City Council adopted the 2023–2031 Housing Element of the General Plan 2040. Updates to the rest of the General Plan 2040 and Climate Action Plan will be reviewed at future public meetings.

On September 28, 2022, Sunset Development announced the purchase of Chevron’s 92-acre, 1.3-million-square-foot “Chevron Park” campus in Bishop Ranch off Bollinger Canyon Road. On December 6, 2022, the San Ramon Planning Commission, as part of its regular meeting, held a Study Session to gather input on the property.

The League of California Cities announced that Contra Costa County and 19 area cities and towns, including the City of San Ramon, won the esteemed 2022 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence in Intergovernmental Collaboration for the A3 Community Crisis Response initiative, which seeks to transform the region’s behavioral health care and emergency response system.

Following a nationwide search, Denton Carlson has been selected as San Ramon’s next Chief of Police. Carlson currently serves as Captain with the San Ramon Police Department, and has more than 24 years of experience as a peace officer—including 20 within the San Ramon community. He will take the Oath of Office at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 26 at San Ramon City Hall.

The City of San Ramon is launching a new Alarm Registration Program. Beginning Friday, July 1, every San Ramon residence or business with an alarm system must obtain an alarm permit. Permits are free and free annual renewal is required.
