Fun on the Farm

Saturdays from 11am to 2pm

Fun on the Farm Activities are FREE crafts and activities that highlight farm life and the late Victorian era.  These Saturday events are an opportunity to step back into history and enjoy the simple things of life.  
*Special events hosted by the San Ramon Historic Foundation are fee-based programs that require registration and will be indicated as such.

Mar 4                 Fun with Felt
Learn how felt is made from sheep’s wool.  Give “wet felting” a try and make a wool ball or bracelet to take home.

Mar 11          Soap Making
Learn the art of soap making using natural ingredients and fall scents to make your own soap to take home.

Mar 18          An Irish Tradition
Did you know before being named San Ramon the name, Limerick, was up for consideration? There were many Irish settlers to the San Ramon Valley. Come learn about their history in the valley and some longstanding traditions.

Mar 25   Tea Time
In 1998 Ruth Boone donated Forest Home Farm to the City of San Ramon. Come celebrate Ruth Boone by enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, having afternoon tea. Learn about the tradition of tea and see many of the antique tea cups & saucers from the collection. Sample some teas and make a fun craft

Apr 1               Easter on the Farm
Learn about Easter traditions from the early 1900’s and decorate your own Easter-themed cookie!

April 8                                    Wonderful Walnuts
Learn about the history of walnut processing and the inventions Travis Boone contributed. See some old equipment in action and make a fun walnut craft to take home.

April 15          Arbor Day
Why are trees so important?  Come to the Farm to learn and watch a tree being planted.  Take home a handmade tree craft.

April 22                            Sheep Shearing Day*
Sheep Shearing Day, presented by the San Ramon Historic Foundation.

See some of the antique toys and dolls from the Forest Home Farms collection and try your hand at some Victorian games!

Learn about flowers and pollination. Look at the anatomy of a flower and make a flower craft.

May 20                    Rug Weaving
The early settlers to North America hooked their old clothing on to burlap bags as a way of warming cold damp floors. Come try this environmentally friendly craft for yourself.
