Join Us for the 5th Annual Spring Recycles Day and Compost Giveaway Event!

We are excited to welcome all City of San Ramon residents to our 5th Annual Spring Recycles Day and Compost Giveaway! This event offers a great opportunity to properly dispose of your recyclables and take home free compost for your garden.  Join us in making a positive impact on our community and the environment!

Time: 8 A.M.- 1 P.M.

No appointment is required to participate this year. However, you are required to show event staff you driver's license and proof of San Ramon residency.

The event will take place at the Alcosta Senior & Community Center/ 9300 Alcosta Blvd.

This event is open exclusively to San Ramon residents. No reservation is needed to attend, but please bring an ID and proof of San Ramon residency. We look forward to seeing you there!

Accepted Materials

Accepted Materials (UP TO 3 CUBIC YARDS PER HOUSEHOLD):

  • CLOTHING: Must be clean and dry. No rugs or pillows.

  • RECYCLABLES: Cardboard (flattened), paper, bottles, and cans.

  • REUSABLE ITEMS: Unbroken and in good condition. No single items over 200 lbs. Please contain multiple small items.

  • SCRAP METAL: Single pieces up to 200lbs. No refrigerators, AC units, propane/helium tanks, or items containing freon, oil, or gas.

  • ELECTRONICS: No single items over 200 lbs. Please box or bag multiple small items. Please indicate if items are operational or not.

  • YARD TRIMMINGS & CLEAN WOOD: Branches, prunings, leaves, plants. No paint, varnish, coatings, treatments, or stains. Must fit in dumpster.

  • SHREDDING SERVICES: Up to three banker boxes per customer.

Q: Who can participate in the event?

A: The event is open to residents of the City of San Ramon only. ID and proof of residency are required

Q: Do I need a reservation to participate in the event?

A: No, reservations are not required to participate. However, ID and proof of residency are required.

Q: What items are accepted at the event?

A: See the Accepted Materials tab for a full list of allowed items.

Q: The item I need to dispose of isn’t listed in the Accepted Materials tab. Where can I find more information?

A:  Visit the Re:Source website and add type the item into the search box for the item you’d like to dispose of.

Q: Where can I dispose of sharps and unwanted medications if they are not accepted at the event?

A:

  • Sharps: Dispose of them in the SHARPSBOX next to the pharmaceutical kiosk inside the San Ramon Police Department (2401 Crow Canyon Rd.). They must be in a sealed, leak-resistant container. If an FDA-cleared container isn’t available, use a sturdy plastic container (e.g., detergent or bleach bottle) with a tight, puncture-resistant lid.
  • Home Collection: San Ramon residents can use the Clean Harbors Door-to-Door HHW Collection Program to dispose of sharps from home. Click here for more information.
  • Medications: Use the Pharmaceutical Disposal Kiosk in the San Ramon Police Department lobby. Accepted items include pills, liquids, creams, and gels in sealed original containers with tight lids.

Q: What should I do with paint, motor oil, or other hazardous waste?

A: These items may not be accepted at the event, but you can dispose of them through the Clean Harbors Door-to-Door HHW Collection Program. Q: I’m unavailable on the event day. How else can I dispose of excess recyclables, reusable items, or electronics?

A: Residents living in single-family homes are provided with three Neighborhood Pick-Ups per year. For details on accepted items and limits, visit the Neighborhood Clean-Up Days Program.
