Virtual Culture in the Community 2020

Website goes live on November 13, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.
(Videos and materials will be available online for several months)

The Culture in the Community Celebration is going virtual this year!  All of your favorite parts of the Culture in the Community Celebration will be going online with entertaining videos celebrating different cultures. The event will  include:  

  • Event Welcome from the Mayor
  • Poem by the Poet Laureate
  • Culture education and sharing with performances sorted by country to include dance, music, etc. Culture showcases may also include a video with facts and artifacts to replicate the country booths, cooking demonstrations, and other video spotlights for the culture.
  • Educational workshops
  • Craft kit for pick-up (while supplies last)
  • Sponsor and Partner Acknowledgment

We Need You!

The virtual Culture in the Community will highlight different cultures with videos from solo and group performers (dance, music, storytellers, poetry, etc.), cultural educators (cultural booths), and restaurants/home cooks to showcase different cultures in our community and around the world. 

That's where you come in! We want you to submit a video highlighting your culture. Here are some video suggestions:

  • Cultural Dance
  • Cultural Music
  • Reading or telling a cultural story or poetry
  • Talking about your experience in your culture or an immigration story
  • Showing cultural artifacts (clothes, food, toys, games, etc.)
  • Telling fun facts about your culture
  • Cooking demonstration or explaining the different foods or ingredients that are important to your culture
  • Anything else. Be creative!

To submit a video please review the video guidelines and complete an application. The application deadline is October 1 with video submissions due by October 19.
