If you successfully complete a City of San Ramon Lifeguard class, participants that get hired and work as a Lifeguard for the City of San Ramon will be eligible to receive a $50 reimbursement toward the training class fee!

Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Training

Start preparing for one of the best jobs in town – Lifeguarding poolside! The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course provides participants with the entry level knowledge and skills required to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies.

Successful completion of all practical skills and written tests will provide certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, Oxygen Administration and Preventing Disease Transmission.

Scholarships are available for this program. Resuscitation mask and lifeguard pack are provided.

Prerequisites: Must be 15 years old, able to swim 300 yards non-stop using freestyle and breast stroke, recover a 10lb weight from 7ft of water and tread water for 2 minutes with no hands.

 

The American Red Cross has modified the Lifeguard Training course to minimize risk of exposure. However, due to the nature of the course, there will be training situations when participants will come in close contact with other participants. Below are some of the many safety precautions that will be observed throughout the training course.

  • Face coverings will be worn at all times unless in the water.
  • Social distance will be observed. When social distance is not possible, face coverings and/or additional personal protective equipment will be worn.
  • Training manikins will be used whenever possible to promote social distancing.
  • Equipment will be labeled and assigned to participants for use throughout the course.
  • Class size has been reduced and participants will be assigned into smaller groups.
  • Hand washing facilities and hand sanitizer will be readily available.
  • All participants will be required to pass a health screening prior to the start of each class session.

Lifeguard Instructor Training

Lifeguard Instructor TrainingThe American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training course prepares participants to use course and presentation materials, conduct lifeguard training courses and evaluate the progress of course participants.

Successful completion of all practical skills and written tests will provide certification in Lifeguard Instructor.

Prerequisites:

Must be 17 years old, currently certified as an ARC Lifeguard and able to demonstrate all skills sufficiently. Participants will also be required to complete an online pre-course prior to the first day of class.

Water Safety Instructor Training

Water Safety InstructorThe American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training course prepares participants to teach American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim and Water Safety Courses. Instructors will learn to use course materials, plan and conduct classes as well as evaluate student progress.

Successful completion of all practical skills and written tests will provide certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.

Prerequisites:

Must be 16 years old, able to swim the four competitive strokes, sidestroke and elementary backstroke. Participants will also be required to complete a portion of the class online.
