California Governor Gavin Newsom recently issued a State of Emergency Proclamation ahead of an anticipated significant 2026–27 El Niño season.
El Niño is a climate pattern that may bring periods of heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and power outages during the fall and winter. The National Weather Service (NWS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are monitoring conditions for the upcoming event.
The City of San Ramon and San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (SRVFPD) are continuing planning and preparation efforts, including clearing downed trees and debris from creeks and channels, inspecting and cleaning storm drains, and preparing and supplying sandbag distribution sites throughout the community.
Street Sweeping Begins November 2, 2026
Colorful fall leaves are beautiful—but when they pile up, they can clog storm drains and create slippery streets and sidewalks.
To keep our community safe, the City of San Ramon will begin seasonal street sweeping from November 2, 2026 through January 29, 2027.
Streets will be swept up to four times per month between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
While your scheduled sweep day will stay the same, sweepers may arrive later than usual.
How Residents Can Help:
- Check the schedule and map for planned street sweeping
- Avoid parking on the street on your street sweeping day
- Keep garbage, recycling, and organics carts off the street
- Trim low-hanging branches that may block sweepers
Reminder: Do not rake or blow leaves into the street—this is considered illegal dumping and may result in a fine. Instead, place leaves and yard trimmings in your green organics cart.
Need more space? Contact ACI for a larger cart or extra bags.
Together, we can help keep San Ramon’s streets clean and safe this fall and winter.
Sandbag Stations

In preparation for the upcoming rainy season, the Public Works Department will make sand and sandbags available for residents at the following park locations beginning November 2, 2026, or earlier if a storm is anticipated before that date:
- Central Park – located along the Acosta Blvd main entrance (driveway just south of Fire Station # 34)
- Athan Downs Park – located on Montevideo Drive (nearest cross street is Davona Drive)
- Southeast corner of Fircrest Lane and Craydon Circle (in front of Sunny Glen Community Center)
- San Ramon Sports Park – located on Sherwood Way (nearest cross street is
East Branch Pkwy)
The sandbag stations are identified by blue "Sandbag Station" signs located within the parking lots listed above. The stations are self-service, so residents must bring their own shovel to fill the sandbags provided by the City.
