Bio:

Marisol Rubio served as Director and Vice President of the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) prior to winning her election for San Ramon City Council District 4 on November 8, 2022. During her term at DSRSD, her district won a District of Distinction Award for good governance and ethical and sound operating practices, which has only been granted to 39 out of approximately 2,050 special districts across California. Marisol has an extensive volunteer background in San Ramon, Contra Costa County, the Bay Area, and the State of California in areas such as disability rights, human rights, workers’ rights, social and racial justice, and the environment. She is also a Founding Advisory Board Member of a nonprofit that advocates for women’s reproductive health education and treatment, as well as a fund that advances policies to protect individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Marisol received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley with a major in Molecular and Cell Biology, Neurobiology emphasis, where she was the recipient of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Women’s Leadership Scholarship Award and a member of the Biology Scholars Programs. She is a former bilingual science teacher and original research mentor and has since applied her science background and personal experience to work for the benefit of our community, including:

  • Protecting our water quality and supply at DSRSD as Vice Chair, then Chair of DSRSD-EBMUD Recycled Water Authority (DERWA) and as a liaison for Zone 7, Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, and the City of San Ramon.
  • Supporting the health and fair employment practices, benefits, and wages for home care providers.
  • Creating more equity and inclusion in health care, education, and social support services for people with disabilities.
  • Championing environmental efforts as an Executive Committee Board Member at Sierra Club California and the San Francisco Bay Chapter.
  • Implementing Just Transition as the Environmental Co-Chair of a joint pilot Labor-Climate Task Force.
  • Bringing together government, community, and commerce for greater community benefit as Director of Government Relations at the San Francisco Bay Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
  • Patient- and Family-Centered Care Guest Lecturer at the Samuel Merritt College FACES Summer Medical Academy.

Marisol is a graduate of the San Ramon Government 101 and Emerge California. She has a certificate in Spanish and Trauma and Resilience Training and three Associate Degrees in German, French, and Italian. During her undergraduate studies, Marisol was on the Honors Program and received the President’s Scholar Award and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) Honorable Mention Award. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.

Marisol is the proud parent of a childhood brain cancer survivor who has lived with lifelong disabilities. She worked closely with her daughter for over two decades to ensure that there were no gaps in her medical care or her education and, as a result, her daughter is a long-term survivor and student in college double majoring in Psychology and Spanish. Marisol chose to live in San Ramon because it provided a safe community for her daughter and plenty of open space for her to enjoy the outdoors. Marisol is dedicated to providing San Ramon residents with an equally rewarding and inclusionary quality of life.
