Good Morning

(Recited on November 13, 2018 at the Senior Center Veterans Celebration)

Morning mist rising

Before the kids roll out of bed.

Coffee steams before cream

Settles in.

Sun streams between pines,

Lightening the lake,

Brightening the spider’s web.

My neighbor’s fragrant morning fire

Wafts over the bellied-up boats.

Murmurs of voices from across the lake;

Murmurs of frogs from the island;

Osprey diving, rising with breakfast.

The fisherman’s fly line

Arcs, framing Monet’s clouds,

Castle Peak, and my friends

Calling from their canoe:

“Good Morning!”
