SROP and Aquatic Center Renovation

Progress continues towards the completion of CIP #200006, the renovation of the San Ramon Olympic Pool and Aquatic Park. The project has three phases. The first phase began with the replacement of the Children’s Play Pool Play Structure, which was completed in July. The second phase, the replaster of the Children’s Play Pool, began on September 16th. The third and final phase, the 50-meter replaster, deck repair, and renovation of the building, was scheduled to begin in November 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 Shelter in Place Order, the re-opening of a majority of the City’s swim programs were delayed, providing staff with the opportunity to accelerate scheduling for the pool project phases. On September 14th, the 50-meter pool was drained. As a result of the schedule changes, the replaster of the Children’s Play Pool and the 50-meter pool are being completed concurrently.

The Children’s Play Pool will receive new plaster and tile to accent the new play structure. The 50-meter pool replaster includes the removal and replacement of the pool plaster, installation of all race lanes and target tiles, and replacement of all under water lighting with energy efficient LED fixtures. In addition, approximately 6,000 square feet of concrete deck surrounding the 50-meter pool will be replaced, and the large blue slide installed in 1984, will be removed. Both pools are scheduled to be completed by the end of October.

The building renovation project is currently in the design phase and is scheduled to be complete by March 2021.
