Contra Costa County Indoor Masking Order Updated

CCHS Indoor Mask Update

With the highly contagious COVID-19 omicron variant circulating in Contra Costa, Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) announced a health order requiring everyone to mask in all indoor public settings.

Previously, there were limited exceptions to the indoor masking order. Public speakers and performers, and fully vaccinated groups of up to 100 people were allowed to remove their face coverings under controlled conditions.

As of December 29, the order now requires all people in the county, regardless of vaccination status, to mask in public indoor settings, including but not limited to:

  • Business offices
  • Retail stores
  • Restaurants
  • Gyms and fitness centers
  • Theaters
  • Family entertainment centers
  • Meeting rooms
  • State and local government facilities where services are provided to the public

Religious gatherings remain exempt from the masking requirement to the extent that removal of face coverings is necessary for participation in a religious activity. Also, in alignment with state guidance, performers at indoor live or recorded settings or events such as music concerts or theatrical plays are not required to wear masks.

CCHS strongly urges everyone to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as they are able. Many people ages 16 and older are now eligible to get a COVID-19 booster. Find information on healthcare providers, pharmacies and clinics offering vaccinations and boosters at the CCHS website or by calling 1-833-829-2626.

The requirements for lifting the indoor masking order will remain the same and progress can be tracked on CCHS's Indoor Mask Dashboard.

COVID Rent Relief

The CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program covers 100% of unpaid rent and utilities for eligible renters and their landlords who have been impacted by COVID-19. The program will continue accepting applications until all funds are exhausted.

As of October 1, 2021, eligible renters who receive an eviction notice have 15 business days to apply for the CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program and notify their landlord that they have applied (or intend to). Applying for assistance may reduce their risk of eviction.

Eligible renters who are at risk of eviction are urged to apply, even if their landlord has not applied.

Interested landlords and renters can check eligibility and apply at HousingIsKey.com or by calling 833-430-2122For assistance in another language, or to verify eligibility, get help with an application or upload paperwork, applicants are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a local organization by calling 833-687-0967.

Assistance from the CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program does NOT count as earned income for renters and will NOT affect eligibility for any other California state benefit assistance programs, such as CalFresh and CalWORKS. Applying to the program will not impact your residency status or your path to citizenship.

If you need further assistance, please dial 2-1-1 or text “HOPE” to 20121.
