Did you know that your unwanted and obsolete electronic equipment and appliances are one of the fastest growing waste streams?  Did you also know that it is illegal to throw televisions and computer monitors in the garbage due to their lead content?

On September 25, 2003, the Electronics Waste Recycling Act of 2003 (SB20) was signed.  The nation's first comprehensive electronics recycling law.  The legislation creates a system for the safe and convenient collection and recycling of hazardous electronic products with the elimination of existing electronic waste stockpiles by the end of 2007.

The City of San Ramon is in the process of developing both short and long term electronic waste collection programs for its residents for the disposal of items such as:

• Computer CPU, including Laptop & handheld (Palm Pilot)

• Computer keyboard, monitor and mouse

• Printer, scanner

• TV, VCR

• Radio, stereo, walkman, CD player

• Fax machine & small copier

• Vacuum

• Microwave oven

• Toaster, toaster oven

• Blender, can opener

• Hairdryer, curling iron, etc..

• Coffeemaker

• Food processor

• Cell phone w/o battery

• Telephone handset

• Answering machine

• Calculator
