MOTORIZED SCOOTER SECTIONS (CVC CODES)

21221.5 Operator shall not operate scooter while under influence of drugs or alcohol.

21223(a)(1) A white light is required at darkness while the scooter is in motion that is visible 300 feet in the front and the sides.

21223(a)(2) A red reflector is required at darkness that is visible from 500 feet to the rear when lawful lights hit it.

21223(b) The white light required in (a)(1) can be attached to operator.

21223(C) The red reflector required in (a)(2) can be attached to operator.

21235(a) Operator shall not operate scooter without a brake that will skid on dry pavement.

21235(b) Operator shall not operate scooter on a highway with a posted speed of over 25 mph, unless in established bike lane with white line.

21235(C) Operator shall not operate scooter w/out properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet.

21235(d) Operator of a motorized scooter must have a valid driver’s license or instruction permit.

21235(e) Operator shall not operate scooter with any passengers.

21235(f) Operator shall not operate scooter while carrying any article that prevents operator from keeping at least one hand on handlebars.

21235(g) Operator shall not operate scooter upon sidewalk, except when necessary to enter and leave adjacent property.

21235(i) Operator shall not park a motorized scooter in any manner that leaves inadequate path for pedestrians.

21235(j) Operator of a scooter cannot attach themselves to any vehicle on a roadway while on the road themselves.

22411 No person shall operate a motorized scooter over 15 mph.
