Dental Insurance
The City offers one dental plan for all employee groups through Delta Dental. The City pays 100% of the benefit for employee and dependents at the following rates:

Vision Insurance
The City offers one vision plan for all employee groups through Medical Eye Services. The City pays 100% of the benefit for employee and dependents at the following rates:

Employee Assistance Plan
The City offers employee counseling and legal assistance benefits through PacifiCare Behavioral Health for employees and dependents. It is City-paid at 100% and the rate is $16.83 per employee per month.
Life Insurance/AD&D
The City pays for a two times the annual salary term life policy for all full-time regular employees. There is an option to purchase additional supplemental life insurance at the employee's cost.
Short & Long Term Disability
$.950 per $100 of salary per month. Employees that work at least 30 hours per week qualify for this benefit.
- STD: 66.7% of pre-disability earnings, 30 day waiting period, weekly maximum of $462.
- LTD: 66.7% of pre-disability earnings, 90 day waiting period, monthly maximum of $10,000.
Retirement
- 3% @ 50
- Employee portion is 9% which is 100% paid by the City
At retirement, any remaining hours after sick leave conversion may be converted to additional PERS service credit.
Social Security
The City does not participate in Social Security except for the required Medicare portion, which equals a 1.45% employee contribution and a matching contribution by the City.
Retiree Health
Employees are eligible for retiree health benefits if they retire from the City on or after age 50 and have met the minimum vesting period required (see below) to receive the benefit. The City of San Ramon covers costs for eligible retired employees' medical, dental and vision insurance premiums for the City sponsored group plans based on a vesting schedule until a retiree reaches Medicare eligibility age (65 years old).

Medicare Eligibility Age for all Employee Groups
At Medicare eligibility age, a retiree is required to leave the City sponsored group health plans.
- Miscellaneous and Safety Retirees may receive a reimbursement of up to $357 per month to purchase a Medicare supplemental insurance policy and to pay for dental and vision coverage. In some cases an additional amount up to $357 may be available for a spouse/registered domestic partner.
The reimbursement amount is adjusted 2% annually.
Vacation
Each regular full-time employee accrues vacation at the following rate:

Regular part-time employees accrue vacation in an amount proportionate to the ratio of scheduled hours of work per week.
Maximum vacation accrual is equal to two times your annual accrual.
Discretionary Holidays
Police Officers receive 18.75 hours of discretionary holiday annually in addition to accrued vacation.

Sick Leave
Sick leave is accrued at 7.5 hours per calendar month for each month that a regular full-time employee has worked. Regular part-time employees shall accrue sick leave in proportion to actual work hours per week. Sick leave may be accumulated without limit for use purposes.
Compensatory Time
Compensatory time may be accrued up to a maximum of 240 hours.
Deferred Compensation Plan
The City offers optional participation at the employee’s cost in the ICMA-RC Deferred Compensation 457 Plan.
Education Reimbursement
Personal and professional development of employees is vital to the success of each individual and to the City. Advanced education programs are available to all employees and the City offers financial support for approved courses.
Computer Loan Program
The City has a Computer Loan Program to provide a financing alternative for employees wishing to purchase personal computer hardware and software similar to what they may be asked to use for City business.
Incentive Pay
- 2.5% for Intermediate POST Certificate

- 5% for K9 Handler
- 5% for Field Training Officer

Will my current vacation time and sick leave be transferred?
No.
Do I start at the minimum vacation accrual?
Yes. However, employees accrue 12 days vacation and when combined with the two discretionary holidays it becomes equivalent to 14 days. The City also offers overtime compensation time accruals which allows for additional time off.
What pay step will I start at?
Starting salary will be base on level of experience.
What are the work shifts?
The City of San Ramon works on a 37.5 hour work week. SRPD offers a variety of work shifts consisting of 3/12 and a modified 4/9.5.
How long is the probationary period?
One year.
Are the Police Officer positions considered "at will" positions?
No, they are a part of the Civil Service System and subject to the same protections.
