Internship Program

The City of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Department offers a number of exciting internship opportunities during the year for college students in the following areas: Therapeutic Recreation/Seniors; Youth and Adult Sports, Marketing/Public Information, Special Events, Aquatics, Historic Properties and Cultural Arts.

The San Ramon Parks and Community Services Internship Program is designed to provide challenging work experiences in municipal recreation or a related field while promoting an understanding of local government. The program is structured so that interns will be assigned to one program area but will gain exposure to various City services and programs.

Objectives of the Program

• Opportunity to expand the student’s knowledge of the field of parks and recreation
• Chance to observe and practice the application of theory to real life situations
• Learn firsthand what it means to be a professional in the parks and recreation field
• Enable the student to realize their personal strengths and challenges
• Help the student develop networking skills
• Provide the opportunity to gain experience in leadership, supervision and administrative functions within a recreation setting
• Enjoy a creative, collaborative and award winning environment

Intern Selection Process Criteria

• Practical work experience
• Educational performance
• Interview performance
• Needs of both the intern and the department
• Involvement with professional and/or academic organizations
• Letter of recommendation from academic advisor
• Computer experience in Microsoft Office.

Intern Application Deadlines
Fall – June 1
Spring – November 1
Summer – March 1
