CITY OF SAN RAMON HOUSING ELEMENT The Housing Element is one of seven major sections or "elements" of the City’s General Plan and is the only element that requires review and certification by the State. The Housing Element is San Ramon’s five- year plan to address the City’s housing goals, policies, objectives and implementation programs. Upon adoption, this will be San Ramon’s first State certified Housing Element. A certified Housing Element gives the City priority for State funding and avoids protection against sanctions. According to Mayor H. Abram Wilson, "The Housing Subcommittee of the General Plan Review Committee expended considerable time, did intensive research, and conducted extensive public outreach efforts. They are to be commended for their successful efforts. As a result of their hard work, we have a Housing Element that meets the State’s requirements and seeks to address the workforce housing needs for San Ramon". Dennis Viers is Chair of the City of San Ramon Housing Advisory Committee and was a member of the Housing Subcommittee which drafted the initial Housing Element. He stated " I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with the good news! It has been nearly four years since we first began work on the Housing Element of the General Plan. This is a true milestone in the history of San Ramon and all of its citizens should be proud of their city.
