CITY OF SAN RAMONHOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE
The purpose of the Housing Element is to ensure that local governments adequately plan to meet the housing needs of all people within the community—regardless of their income. By law, every city and county in California must adopt a Housing Element as part of its General Plan. Unlike the other mandatory general plan elements, the Housing Element is required to be updated approximately every five years and is subject to statutory requirements and mandatory review by a State agency. The contents of the Housing Element must include an assessment of current and future housing needs, identify constraints and opportunities to meet those needs, and provide a comprehensive strategy for achieving housing goals, policies, and programs. In the Bay Area, local governments must complete updates to their Housing Element by June 30, 2009.San Ramon is in the process of updating the City’s Housing Element. Agendas
