Building Code
Permit Exemptions
Permits are NOT required for the following types of home
improvements:
-
Patio slabs (where no patio cover is to be constructed).
-
Sidewalks (MUST drain to front of property).
-
Driveways.
-
Painting (both interior and exterior).
-
Removing and replacing carpeting, floor tile, or vinyl flooring
(unless termite report or water damage is involved).

Removing and replacing faucets.
-
Removing and replacing broken panes of glass.
-
Papering and similar finish work.
-
Fences not over six (6) feet in height.
-
Retaining walls not over four
(4’) feet in height from the bottom of the foundation to the top of the
wall, unless supporting a surcharge (a cut in hillside creates a
surcharge) or within an Engineered Grading Development such as Dougherty
Valley, Old ranch Summit etc.

Platforms, patio slabs, or decks, walks, and driveways not more
than thirty (30) inches above grade and not over any basement or
story below.
-
Window awnings supported by an exterior wall of a residence or
garage when projecting not more than fifty-four (54) inches.

Prefabricated swimming pools accessory to a residence in which the
pool walls are entirely above the adjacent grade and if the water
capacity does not exceed five thousand (5,000) gallons. (Electrical
permit is required for ALL prefabricated pool equipment.

Unless otherwise exempted, separate plumbing, electrical, and
mechanical permits will be required for the above-exempted items.

Exemption from the permit requirements of this code shall not be
deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner
in violation of the provisions of this code or any other laws or
ordinances of this jurisdiction.
